America – A Horse With No Name [reMaSter 16:9]

On the first part of the journey I was looking at all the life There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz And the sky with no clouds The heat was hot and the ground was dry But the air was full of sound I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert you can remember your name ‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain La, la… After two days in the desert sun My skin began to turn red After three days in the desert fun I was looking at a river bed And the story it told of a river that flowed Made me sad to think it was death You see I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert you can remember your name ‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain La, la … After nine days I let the horse run free ‘Cause the desert had turned to sea There were plants and birds and rocks and things there was sand and hills and rings The ocean is a desert with its life underground And a perfect disguise above Under the cities lies a heart made of ground But the humans will give no love You see I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert you can remember your name ‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain La, la…

You can play it on regulating tuning also: 022000 and 200200
Thanks for a great video and the chords for the D tuning. Much appreciated.

I have always loved this song. Google, Micheal Jackson "with no name". It sounds almost the same. He copied it.

I was born the week this was #1 on the charts. I've always liked to think that my mom was probably huffing and puffing, squeezing me out while this song played on the radio in the background. A big matron, sits at the counter bopping her head to this song. All is quiet in the hospital corridor, when suddenly a baby's wail pierces the stillness.

They were the real deal. I mean, their producer was George Martin…the Beatles' boy wonder producer. And the harmonies and their writing talents can not be denied. And Gerry Beckley…..!!!!! Strip him, wash him…and bring him to my tent.

What is ironic is that people had thought Neil Young sang this, going by the fact it knocked his "Heart of Gold" out of the number 1 spot.

I found a nice tutorial on how to play this on guitar. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a pick, so I jury-rigged one out of a felt banner. What was funny is that as it hit the face of the guitar on the down strokes, it sounded like a horse clopping. :O

America…what a fucking great band! They had so many number ones in the 70's. I see that they still tour and yet I have not had the opportunity to see them in concert. Definitely a bucket list item.

I was at a point in life where I was stressed to no end and my brain was completely stewed and I heard this song for the millionth time and actually understood it! Its the story of a man's life from start to end. In the first part of the journey as a child, a person observers and takes in all the wonders of life. During the 2 and 3 days of the journeys it talks about would be adolescences where you are overwhelmed by life but start to understand things. After nine days is about adult life where you have experience and can understand the complex nature of life itself and have a good grasp on your place in life. Thus, he let the horse run free………..

I was ten years old when I first heard this wonderful song in February 1972. Lovely acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies.
