Does Banjo Kazooie take place in Donkey Kong’s Northern Kremisphere? | SwankyBox

Banjo Kazooie held an adventure that I will
never forget, and will always cherish. Upon finishing the game though, I often wandered
around aimlessly both inside and outside Gruntilda’s Lair. Spiral Mountain was both relaxing, but also
kind of sad to me (especially seeing the state of things in Nuts and Bolts). Banjo’s house was essentially located in
the middle of nowhere, and although I’m sure the occasional card game was fun, my
sense of exploration wanted to know what else was out there in this world. Later on in Banjo Tooie we would find out
that beyond the walls lead to the remainder of the Isle o’ Hags, with a gigantic mountain
island not far from it. Cloud Cuckooland in scale is comparable to
Mount Everest, as you can see the mountainous Isle o’ Hags way below it. While knowing that Banjo’s land was far
larger than I had thought, I still wanted to know more. So I turned back to the earliest memory I
had of Banjo, and that was in Diddy Kong Racing. Diddy Kong racing was a game that I unfortunately
never finished as a child. I’ll admit it, it was honestly too difficult
for me to collect everything in the game. I wasn’t too big on racing games in my younger
years, and even with the combined efforts of my brothers we never made it all the way
to the final ending. The silver coin challenges absolutely wrecked
us, and I still have nightmares about them to this day. When I think back about Diddy Kong Racing
in general though, it does peak my interest. The whole game took place on a small island,
where a group of characters that I would grow to love, gathered together to defeat some
giant awkward pig. Oh Wizpig… I don’t even. But what always got my mind racing was the
fact that Diddy Kong, Banjo, and Conker all gathered on some remote island to fight against
an oppressive dark force. While this is way before any of the characters
primes, as in, Banjo lacks Kazooie and Conker is running on gasoline and not alcohol, it
is very interesting that such a thing would occur. Obviously when I played this game for the
first time I did not know they would go on to star in their own grand adventures. But now that I’m looking back at it, it
paints a mysterious picture about the world that all of these characters are from. If we judge things by the Nintendo 64 version
of the game, the explorable areas of Donkey Kong, Banjo Kazooie, and Conker all take place
in the same world. Some like to refer to this as the Mushroom
World, since Mario has notable crossovers as well. But meeting on the island to face Wizpig was
no coincidence, as Diddy himself wrote a distress message to Banjo and had it delivered via
carrier pigeon, similar to how Timber wrote him one. This shows that their friendship comes from
an earlier time in life, perhaps in the aftermath of when Diddy Kong was kidnapped in Donkey
Kong Country 3, or maybe somewhere on the way to Big Ape City from Donkey Kong Land. It would have to have been when he was away
from Donkey Kong Island and Crocodile Island though, since both are right next to each
other. Either way, it takes a certain level of friendship
to Fed-X same day ship a distress letter by pigeon across the world. But that’s an interesting point too… Just how big or small is this world? As Banjo traveled over from Spiral Mountain,
or wherever he was living at the time, he crossed paths with Conker who joined up with
him on his journey. At some point, they must have hit water and
would have had to sail to Timber’s Island Wind Waker style. Timber’s Island, the place where Diddy Kong
Racing takes place, is in close proximity to Donkey Kong Island. In the remake of Diddy Kong Racing, it is
even more apparent when Timber and friends are literally right outside of Diddy Kong’s
house after sending the letter… Which begs the question: Why even send a letter
of distress in the first place, when you could walk right up to his house? Anyways, when I began to try to figure out
the structure of this world, my head began to spin a bit. Trying to shape the world by placing islands
in relative location to one another was an impossible feat, so I began to consider other
options. Donkey Kong had the largest documentation
of areas and maps covered due to the number of games it had, so it would be easier using
their world as reference. But even then, I didn’t have much luck. But then I noticed something that was really
interesting. I noticed that bears were only in one area
of the Donkey Kong universe: And that was in the Northern Kremisphere of Donkey Kong
Country 3. Now that may not sound like a lot, but it
was definitely a start. The brothers bear were a series of characters
you bartered with throughout the game in order to collect Banana Birds and other items, which
in turn, were needed to complete the game. Each were in different regions throughout
the Northern Kremisphere, but they all had one thing in common besides being bears. All of their names began with the letter B.
Brash, Blunder, Bramble, Bazooka, Blizzard, Benny, — Banjo? Could Banjo be one of these bears? It seems that male bears within the region,
whether confirmed to be brothers or not, feature names that start with B. So while Tooty, Banjo’s
sister, could be considered an outlier in this situation, this naming formula might
only apply to male bears. Obviously Banjo is not a bear you encounter
in Donkey Kong Country 3, but it doesn’t mean he didn’t originate from this group. However, while digging a bit deeper, I recalled
a menacing laugh that always annoyed me as a child. The laugh belonged to Bleak, the boss of K3,
the snow region in Donkey Kong Country 3. This laughing pile of snow featured a notable
top hat and scarf, and he fired and slung snowballs about. He did seem oddly familiar to Sir Slush, his
Banjo Kazooie counterpart though. I mean, just listen to those laughs. Creepy. Perhaps just beyond the mountains of the Northern
Kremisphere is the Isle o’ Hags, and thus is the reason that these characters are so
similar. With that said, it would make sense that Spiral
Mountain is part of the Northern Kremisphere, but unfortunately all of this still falls
in the realm of speculation and not actual fact. Even with Tiptup’s presence in Banjo Kazooie,
it still only shows they exist in the same world, but offers no clues on how these worlds
are laid out. In my eyes it makes sense that Banjo hails
from the north, errr south, depending on how you look at it from Donkey Kong Country 3’s
instruction manual. But what are your thoughts on this subject? Is Banjo one of the Brothers Bear? Are you secretly a cartographer for the Mushroom
World? Please share in the comments below! Perhaps we may never know the layouts of these
lands now that Microsoft has Rare in its clutches, but one could say the search is half the fun. Thanks for tuning in for our cross game journey

So wait, let's sit here for a moment and look at the Mario Universe of Games.

Mario games (duh, the basis for this reality. Pretty much everything bar crossovers and change of formats, i.e. Paper Mario, are canon too, so that helps)
    Luigi's Mansion
    Wario Land/Wario Ware
    Donkey Kong
    Diddy Kong Racing
    Banjo Kazooie
    Conker's Bad Fur Day
And, for the multi verse aspect we at least have Zelda and Doki Doki Panic as neighboring universes, given how Wart travels between them and has big roles in multiple games. (An argument could be made for Kirby and Metroid games too, but that's pushing things)

So, if that's the case, Mario's world is so expansive it covers at least NINE different game series, THREE universes and TWO competing console companies.

Just let that sink in. Microsoft owns part of the Mario universe

The character designer behind DK country has a particular and consistent pattern he goes by.

I know what you’re going to say… “Wait! If Banjo shares a universe with Donkey Kong, who shares a universe with Mario, doesn’t that mean that all three share a universe with Rabbids?” Well, not really, as the Rabbids came to that universe from another universe, and the Mario universe was fabricated through action figures and other collectibles of the many Super Mario characters. What this does mean, however, is that Mario, DK and all the others in this big universe are fake. “But who isn’t fake?” you may ask. If the Mario universe is fake, and the Rabbids could only get to it by bringing life to the many Mario characters, and create an entirely fictional universe on the side, this would mean the Rabbids are real. But it doesn’t end there, as this would also mean, at least in the Rabbids universe that the Rabbids created the Mario universe we know today. Bet I just blew your mind there, right?

Then does that mean BK takes place in the same universe as all of nintendo? since DK is part of the Mario universe, which links to just about everything

To be fair, I love imagining that all these worlds are connected, I do this in multiple game series. I don't picture the world map as THE WORLD map, but rather an island in a series of islands all close together much like the Canary Islands in the real world. Each "world" is merely an island, makes everything feel sooo much bigger.

I feel Banjos world no exception to this, isle o hags seems like an area of Donkey Kong Country that we just simply haven't explored until Banjo Kazooir came out.

Basically playing through all these games is like a road trip through the Rareware Islands. With Isle Delfino and the Mushroom kingdom on the opposite end of the Nintendo continent.

To me they live on the same universe and the same worlds and they’re friends at Diddy Kong Racing and friends for life. Yeah they live on different islands 🌴 and the Brother Bears 🐻 don’t have Banjo as a brother maybe he a cousin. I know that they’re from Rare but deep down Banjo-Kazooie and Conker are still Nintendo at heart ❤️

Re-watching this just makes me remember how great it was in Pokemon Gold and Silver when you were able to explore Kanto. The idea of exploring old areas with a new perspective was such a great feeling. It's sad to see that there probably was going to be a time that Rare was going to have a sort of MCU of mascot characters that we never got to see. Sure it's great to see these characters in Smash, but I personally would like an adventure game with different worlds I've seen before but in new perspectives. I guess something like Kingdom Hearts, which is probably most the reason I was obsessed with those games.

    Think about it
Donkey kong is in the mario universe.
If Banjo-Kazooie and the DK universe are connected then Banjo is in the Mario universe!

Look like in the new smash bros trailer it's more offical. Banjo is part of the dk world. Also there was this mission with a monkey that reminded me of diddy in banjo kazooie the orginal game. I think you had to get them a fruit and there was another ape that look like a huge dk. I cant really remember it's been years but it seems to me like they are of the same world just different islands. They also had a link in each others games that was canceled due to the n64 lack of technology or software with memory swap or game swapping. So I'm even more certain that they are of the same world.

I remember there being a squirrel (or a chipmunk) in Banjo Kazooie that looked similar to Conker. Maybe there worlds intersect.

In my opinion, Conker's inclusion in this world doesn't include Bad Fur Day, rather that it probably includes the world from the unreleased "Twelve Tales: Conker 64" and the gameboy game "Conker Pocket Tales". Sorry, I can't accept that the booze, gore, and feces filled world of Bad Fur Day exists on the same planet as Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario Bros.
