I loved Donkey Kong 3 and remember it very fondly. I bought the Wii Virtual Console release the day it came out. I would love to see Nintendo bring Stanley back in some way.

Just played this the other day! Arkadia Retrocade in Fayetteville, AR has one in their Nintendo row, with the other DK games, Mario Bros and Dr. Mario.

A Famicom Disk System was just sitting on the back counter for open play, turned on to Super Mario Bros 3 (although, it was playing a cartridge). Neat stuff

Along with the other wall ornaments, what is the one portraying that black and white dinosaur like monster? Is it from any Ultima game?

Tbh I don't think Donkey Kong 3 is a bad game at all. It's just not my favorite, I grew up playing Donkey Kong Jr. so that game unfairly became my favorite plus Donkey Kong 3 never really had an oppurtunity to make an impression on me since I didn't know the game existed until I was a teenager and at that point it was too late. I've only played Donkey Kong 3 on an emulator on the pc but it just doesn't feel the same as opposed to if I had played it when I was little at an arcade.

I don't care…. In my opinion DK 3 is an amazing game! Of course it's not original DK or DK Jr. It's DK 3 and yes it's unique… One of the many reasons I love this arcade machine!

Very interesting so it's pretty much Donkey meets Greenhouse and mix in a blender. I remember seeing this at an arcade first and thinking what the hell. Then made the mistake of not playing until a few months later and it was actually a fun little game. This will for sure be on my arcade list if I decide to do a Raspberry Pi.

I’ve never found a working cabinet “in the wild” – every time I see one, it’s broken. 🙁

I don't know. I really liked DK3. Sure, it's not as well known as the first 2, but was still a solid game. I really liked how they integrated platformers and vertical shooters. Glad to hear the Historian liked it too.

0:58 Loved when you showed how retro gamers are, sitting on ground looking up to their TVs, simple fun.
I still play like that myself 🙂
Unlike kids these days, having huge headset with racing chair and a 144Hz something triple monitors.. How sad.

I was at my friend's house the other day and he had a bootleg NES classic called "Entertainment System" and I seen donkey Kong 3. I was like "More bootleg crap" but after seeing this video, I was shocked how this was actually real!

I honestly didn't know there was a donkey kong 3 until about 15 years ago. As a kid, I saw the first two everywhere. I still have never seen this in the arcade. I'll have to check this out on nes.

The music at 8:06 : did the composer for that music also write the music for Pokemon Pinball? Sounds very similar.

I honestly think DK 3 is fun tho…it just took a different turn as far as gameplay and ppl didn't dig it like that. Very fun and challenging to me though!

The arcade version of Donkey Kong 3 is worth having .Nes version is good too but it's a little difficult for kids tho.

"It's not like Mario to be equipped with a spray gun"

Yeah, we'd probably see Luigi using a vacuum before that happened. What a ridiculous thought…

strange to think that only 5000 were made. in 1989 or 1990 i used to pump quarters into it at a laundromat in the very small town of McDonald PA. How they got it (being that it was such a limited run)I don't know. I didn't even know they made an NES version until over 20 years later when I saw it at a local used game store. Still one of my favorites.

I found out that Stanley the bug man is Mario's cousin and you may notice in the arcade he was wearing the same shirt and red overalls as mario, so basically a part of mario is in this game but in the form of his cousin Stanley the bug man.

DK 3 is phenomenal, I liked that it turned into a fast paced shoot em up. It helped set this game apart from the original and DK Jr.

Not a whole lot of people bring this one up when talking about this one when the conversation is about donkey kong so yeah also they should remake this game but with mario instead of stanley the so called bug man who sucks at his job lol

I agree that because the Video Game Crash of 1983 occur when this released definitely caused people to hate it. I guess Nintendo picked a VERY bad time to released this

Funny when I came across this, since I just purchased DK3 from the Nintendo Switch's Arcade Classics eShop. Still remember seeing it in the arcades back then.

I don’t think Nintendo should just throw away Stanley. Atleast add him in one more game.

I loved Donkey Kong 3. Whenever I found one, I always had to play it even though I sucked at it when I was young.

Super Mario Odyssey 2 Stanley is back, in a way the Bug man is transformed into a hybrid Dragon Turtle so Mario was after Stanley after all since Super Mario Bros 1 and yet Peach is Stanley's girlfriend, this means in Super Mario Odyssey 2 Stanley is actually Bowser so his name should be Stanley Bowser, yet playing Bowser as Bowser faces Donkey Kong he will use a bug spray, yet he finds his pickup truck that says Bowser Pest Control.

Yet Kamek is one of the main enemies in Super Mario Odyssey 2 this is why Mario needs to fight Donkey Kong so at the end Mario saves Pauline and Peach kisses Bowser and yet Bowser is Stanley.

Stanley would be the perfect compliment to the Mario Bros: Mario (red), Luigi (green), Wario (yellow), Waluigi (purple) and Stanley (orange). Make him playable in Mario Kart or Smash Bros.
