THE NEWFOUNDLAND IS A CROSS BREED DEVELOPED FROM IRISH, SCOTTISH, AND ENGLISH PONIES THAT SETTLERS BROUGHT TO THE CANADIAN ISLAND CENTURIES AGO. THE PONIES ROAM FREELY. THEY WERE CONSIDERED WORKHORSES ON THE ISLAND, PLOWING AND HAULING WOOD. THEY WERE BRED TO HANDLE THE HARSH CLIMATE ERA OF THE TALE ALLOWS SNOW AND ICE TO SLIDE RIGHT OFF — THE HARSH CLIMATE. SHE IS GOING TO GIVE US NUMBER 41 IN THIS COUNTRY.>>THEY FOCUS ON PROVIDING HOMES AND FOSTER CARE FOR THE PONIES THAT COME THEIR WAY. A RESCUED THIS STALLION MORE THAN SIX YEARS AGO. HIS HIP WAS CRUSHED IN AN ACCIDENT AT ANOTHER FARM. THEY TOOK A CHANCE, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SUGGESTED THEY PUT HIM DOWN.>>IT WILL BE SIX YEARS OF CHANCE COMING SOON. HE IS AS SWEET AS CAN BE.>>LILY IS THIS 14-YEAR-OLD MARE. WE CAN FEEL HER FOAL KICKING. ONE CHARACTERISTIC THAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE NEWFOUNDLAND PONY IS IN GENERAL THEY ARE NOT YOUR TYPICAL, TEMPERAMENTAL PONY. THEY DO NOT BITE. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THEY DO NOT KICK EVIDENXC CE OF JUST HOW FRIENDLY THEY ARE, S INTERRUPTED OUR INTERVIEW BECAUSE SHE HAD TO BE THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. THERE SHE GOES. THIS IS WHAT MY DAY IS LIKE.
