Is My Mare In Labor? Versatile Horsemanship

I got my little sidekick here helping me
out she wanted to walk Nika I have had so many emails and comments and messages
Facebook Instagram you name it that I figured I better do an update for
everybody so it is May 10th and we do not have a baby yet yes you can take
your halter off has a roundabout way of doing it yeah isn’t it nice though that she brings her
head down for you to put yeah well and she’s been taught her entire life to
drop her head down with pressure so that’s why she’s so good about that she
sure is she’s a very good girl oh that’s nice of you thank you good point it’s okay she’s far enough away from it yeah she’s so itchy yeah she goes around I think she probably does – beautiful
all right yawning well the door is open honey okay so I leave it here we are the whole gang
just hanging out because she really wants you to scratch her till that okay Friday night fun in the barn we’re just
finishing up our barn chores and one of the last things I do is I bring Nica in
for the night but I always turn her loose in the arena for 20 minutes or so
just so she can walk around get some exercise roll if she wants whatever and and we’re having fun with the kitties
today I mean Kenai alright this is just chaos
but anyway this horse has the opportunity to go and wander wherever
she wants and look where she is yeah well and it helps that take a look
looks normal to me Deauville what do you think when do you
think she’s gonna have that baby I’m not telling you oh so it’s kind of like a wish you’re
not supposed to tell anybody else yeah she’s kind of like she’s kind of being
weird about I know she’s being kind of weird about this
she was really warmed to she’s not comfortable well obviously she’s very
pregnant but she’s having a really hard time just getting just finding a spot
that she wants scratched she’s just not comfortable I’ve not noticed any big differences
between a couple days ago and now other than the fact that she’s just like less
content with things so she’s moving around a lot more even when I’m
scratching her or brushing her she just wants to she just wants to be moving
around and so like oh she’s going with my daughter everywhere she goes but she
just wants to keep moving and she’s been laying down in her stall a lot more so
that’s one of the differences the milk is still milk is still coming out pretty
steady and her bags huge she’s not eating all of her grain but you know so
those are that’s what’s going on and of course tomorrow all right I should tomorrow I’m doing an
adult boot camp so tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday I have an adult boot camp
here so we’ll have a lot going on and I don’t know what’s gonna happen from that
with a vet coming I think Tuesday and Thursday we have
vets here so that’ll be good so it’s gonna be a super busy weekend and a
super busy week and then yeah so I I just wish you would have this baby it’s
just it’s time I don’t want to see her miserable anymore she totally just
sighed checked me with her belly her belly’s so big that she doesn’t even
know where it is anymore I do see movement going on here so
that’s good but as soon as I touch her belly now she’s like no don’t touch me
there I gotta tell you um I’m a little humbled
by the amount of subscribers that I’ve suddenly accumulated in oh my gosh the
comments I just have to tell you though that I do read every single comment on
my channel and I appreciate them very much I don’t get the opportunity to
respond to all of them because honestly it’s a little overwhelming there’s a lot
but just know that I do I do read them I do appreciate them so thank you for
thank you for taking the time to leave me a comment because it genuinely does
make my day to read all them I really enjoy it Tobi’s working on her cat
agility okay Lila loves to chase the chase a whip and
she’ll pretty much go over around through anything if you’ve got a stick
it’s pretty cute so I’m just gonna sit here and give my horse a good scratch
and then we’re gonna put her in her stall and head in for the night I’ll be
back out to check on her and I will be sure to keep you posted after all that no she’s just standing in
the stall eating oh my gosh her tail was sticking out she was
looking back at her belly that sure looked to me like something was gonna
happen she just stood up and started eating actually she took a big poop
first and then she started eating so I’m sitting in the stall next to her it’s
1:45 in the morning I’m tired but oh my gosh

Just found your YT site. Yep, my timing is always this good. I grew up in Gwinn, but have lived the last 25 yrs out of state. First video I watched of yours was of your vet cleaning the geldings sheaths. Knew you were a Yooper with your first words. Now I'm hooked on "Foal watch." Pray that all goes well with Nika and foal.

Not even my horse and I'm so bloody excited!

Well, at least she delivered something before she ate, lol! She has got to be having some labor pains. She was very appropriately watching her back side as if what ever was making her uncomfortable was coming from exactly the area the baby will be born. Somehow, I think you're not going to get to bed tonight. At least grab a blanket and try to figure out a close place to grab a few winks. The poor momma. She has got to get some relief soon. I mean you, and the beautiful horse with hair. I'm praying for the very best and my prayers always work. Hang in there moms!

It did look like something was going on. But she is, for what I can see, not in active labor. If she would be in active labor, she would stand up, lay down all the time. She would be very awake and uncomfortable. She would also start laying on her side, that's what most mares do. We, on the riding school I go to, have also a really pregnant mare. She looks like she's going to pop xD but instead of going in the stables, ours has a camera to watch the mare and she also has the kind of thing you put around the mare like a saddle for the night, wich when would give off a signal if the mare lies on her side.

Thank you for your update video. It seems to be the beginning of the beginning. Nika looking back at her sides/back end is a sign. It looks like it could be anytime. I loved your dog and cat trying to steal the show. Watching the dog go round and round with what I read was a ball just made me chuckle. And you have an amazing daughter, so confident around Nika and a busy little worker too. Happy Mothers Day.

I just love how your children are comfortable around her and how good she is with them. Just shows what a good example you've been and what a truly along mare you have. Very lucky. Just waiting on that baby..I'm betting on buckskin or chestnut with chrome. Whatever it is it will be wonderful.

Love your barn with all the little things happening which makes your vlog so much fun. Your funny german shepard running around with some big object in his mouth which he never seems to drop, your adorable children, your daughter, so honest with everything she says, your son falling flat on his face without a word of complaint, the playful cats, so fun playing with your kids, running almost as fast as your dog. The vet visit with so many interesting things to say. Then there is your pregnant mare so ready but refusing to drop. I swear its going to happen tonight!

Poor girl. She looks so uncomfortable. May be mares get an increase in Braxton hicks contractions a couple of days before they go into labor like humans do! I reckon the next 48 hours!

I've only been around 8 new foals being born, but it sure seems like she's laboring. Many good wishes for a successful birth, hopefully today. A mother's day baby would be awesome, but I haven't been lucky in predicting her date so far. Thanks for documenting it for all us.

Happy Mother's Day to you. I know how nerve racking the waiting is but its all worth it. She's so close. Your kids are so great with all your animals its amazing. Love your barn kitties. I need one but I'm afraid it will be taken by the coyotes in our area. My 8 kitties are house bound.
