LGR – Donkey Kong Country [aka I’M SICK]

Well, I’m sick Actually, I am not just sick. I am very sick it seems I may or may not have H1N1 also known as the swine flu Just freaking lovely. I am therefore on drugs But that doesn’t mean I cannot therefore make a review. I apologize for the computerized voice That’s being used here But if I recorded my own voice you would probably call for gandalf to send my hellbeast back to whence it came Forever cast back into the dark Oblivion hum Now that I think about it, this voice sounds like a cheap voice actor from an even cheaper English dubbed Japanese anime. excuse me while I get a sex change [zipper zipping] Ah! That is better. I think. Oh well, on to this first review as the female Lazy Gamer Reviewer [Distorted LGR theme plays] Donkey Kong Freaking Country Every time I’m sick. I feel myself craving this game You know how some people have comfort food or comfort items or comfort comfort? Well, I have DKC as my comfort game. It Just make me feel good. Oh so good Oh, yes Give it to me [Random gibberish] enough text-To-speech abuse Ahem, everybody knows the game, but here is a review and if you don’t know it I pity you more than you should pity my sick self Donkey Kong country of course started out with the character donkey Kong from the game Donkey Kong in the year of our donkey Kong 1981 Nintendo then made approximately 666 versions of the Game until it was a game about bug spray until RareWare Previously known as Ultimate Play The Game, a UK developer of awesome created Donkey Kong Country in 1994 for the Super Fraggin Nintendo! I remember when I first saw the game, I Probably would have creamed my pants if I were capable, I was at a friend’s grandmother’s house, and she had a Super Nintendo Yes, his grandmother’s snes his grandmother’s donkey Kong She was an old lady game Collector and was awesome as balls Anyways, the graphics to the game blew me the hex away the SGi Development Solution Rare used gave the game A never-Before-seen look that made the game seem 3D while still remaining 2D And what a 2-D game it was and still is and forever will be amen DKC is very close to being my favourite platformer game ever Though I played much more Commander Keen and Duke Nukem back in the Dizzle I always come back to Donkey Kong F’ing Country fo’ heasel Especially when I’m sick, like now with the stupid stupid stupid swine flu Let’s start with the basics. The game is a standard side-scrolling platformer game You play Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong on their epic quest to recollect all of their lost bananas That sounds ridiculous, and it is because it is the 90s and there is time for Klax What makes the game so dadgum awesome is the fact that there is almost nothing to it? it is so impressively simple that even a kid can play it But it’s so solid and functional and not to mention straight-up fun that any adult can enjoy it Come to think of it. I know of more adults that like the Donkey Kong games than I do kids even back in 1994 That’s not to say it is an adult game per se. That would be disturbing as crap Aside from the simple and enjoyable gameplay the game also gives you plenty of incentive to explore and replay the game I have played through the game countless times and can usually do so in much less than an hour and then I start right back over Every time I find some new secret and the reason is because there are literally tons of secrets I Swear if you could measure secrets they would measure in the tons or at least in the butt-loads Many levels you can basically skip right through if you want due to the myriad secret barrels and passageways I love the stupid game, but only because it loves me back so much harder the only problems I have what the game is that it doesn’t make me bacon sandwiches and give my dog a bath I don’t even have a dog so I guess that’s a good thing but the bacon would be nice As would some Tang Omnomnom Donkey Kong Freakin country is the best freaking platformer freaking game on the super freaking Nintendo entertainment system and is almost the best platformer of all friggin time I am serious [Glitchy serious voice overs] No other game in the genre has kept me entertained as long as this one has and still manages to stay exciting even after Playing through it for the Millionth time The second and third games were pretty good, too But they started to get too complicated, and you couldn’t match the perfect balance between Diddy and Donkey with those other new Characters I just didn’t like them as much As Far as platform games go, DKC gets my rocks off like nothing else and it makes me feel better Daggone it! Now if you will excuse me, I feel like dying

This is somehow still classier and better than some of the reviews I've watched on Youtube. That is just hilarious to think about.

You know.. when my mother bought our first SNES it was the one that came with this game free. It also had the soundtrack on cd. To this day I believe I still have the game and soundtrack, but I have NEVER played the game. hmmm

Your friend's grandmother had a SNES? You, sir, live in a world of awesomeness, and I don't.
Just wanted you to know that. Just wanted you to know.

    Entertaining, unique review!
However, I must admit that I feel quite dirty after viewing it.

I love this game. It's basically platforming perfection. Whenever I play a new platformer (typically pre-modern era), I always compare it to DKC to assess its quality. I think DKC 3 is underrated, yeah it sucks that it doesn't have good ol DK and Diddy Kong in it, but everything else about the game is brilliant, and they managed to make the graphics look even better. The level of detail in that game is mindblowing especially when you consider that it's an SNES game.

Is it true if you just run through the whole game without stopping it's possible to beat it?

I was watching a few other reviews on this game (almost felt like I was cheating on your channel), and I was close to asking if you can do a review or even a LGR Plays on DKC, but then I saw this and flipped. XD I watch your stuff ALL the time, stuck with you for years, and it shocked me I haven't stumbled upon this video yet. Hilarious review as always. And when you mentioned how some people have comfort food, or comfort comfort… well, LGR is what I find comfort in. Thank you for being awesome. 🙂

"It just make me feel good. Oh so good. Oh yes. Give it to me."
I know cheap voice synthesizers are old hat, but…I just couldn't keep a straight face at that line!

DKC is probably my favorite platformer. I love all five country games but the original has the best music and levels. DKC3 has the most unique level design but I could go on forever praising this series.

I'm a Nintendo fanMAN. You might consider it sacrilege but even tho Super Mario Bros was the first game I ever played and I love the Mario series infinitely, I consider DKC a better series.

Don't sleep on the soundtrack to Tropical Freeze. Its almost to big for its own good but the more I play the more I love it.

I have a special love for DKC !! When I was a but wee little dorkling I had a snes and a n64 and seeing as I'm a girl and being 3 so I couldn't read I often played with video games like dolls, I would make up stories for link or mario or whatever and have them run around the world like idiots. But DKC, DKC was different! It was the first game that I straight up played hard core from day 1. I've played the first world of that game so many times I litteraly know where every secret is! And the first mine cart level please I could play it blindfolded with the sound off while only being able to hold the controller with my tongue!! It holds a special place in my heart and its fucking BADASS!!

Goddamn, LGR. You're a fucken visionary. Even when you're all fucked up, you still excel and deliver. I'd love to be by your bedside whilst you layeth upon ye deathbed, if only I weren't so sure I'd have croaked by then.

MAN…this game was a HUGE part of my childhood! I remember my mother purchasing a copy at this Toys R Us in Santa Monica at the time. I can't remember what game I wanted originally, but I'm glad this was the ultimate choice. I played the hell out of this game…great times.

    Dat Aquatic Ambience, tho…PERFECT

This is why text to speech exists. Well played.
I have this game like 2 foot away at all times. I can totally relate to the happy feels you get from it. The music, sfx, characters gormless mugs, all of it is brilliant.

DKC, was among my favorite SNES and Rare titles.  Cause of that game, I stuck with Rare up to Banjo Tooie.

One of the all-time greats… I think I like DKC2 a bit more for a few reasons but this is way better than the 3rd and as much as I've tried, hard, to get into the DKCR games, the SNES ones just feel better to me — though Tropical Freeze comes much closer.  Yoshi's Island is the best platformer for the SNES though, it is written.

Could have done without that droning background noise, I'm not sure why but it just really bugged me, probably more then it should.

Such an ominous background noise. Sounds like what you hear before a killer pops out and impales someone you like.

I love your channel, it's comfort to me. Just want you to know that my grandma got this game on release day and I spent the weekend at her house playing it together and from them on my gma made a gamer out of me… So how cool that our stories are similar!

Why does the computer voice always makes it sound like a video from a member of a cult, reading their take-over-the-world manifesto?

    OMG I LOVE YOU

Seriously I felt like the only person in the world silently thinking that every blessed time someone says "well, what do you expect, it's the 90s".

I'm gonna have to disagree with you. DKC2 was definitely the best of the series. Pirates are freaking awesome.
